Custom Refractory Linings for Steelmaking: MgO-C Brick Manufacturer and Supplier

In short: YK Chanshine is a refractory manufacturer in Yingkou, Liaoning. We make MgO-C brick, MgO-CaO brick, MgO-Cr2O3 brick, precast shapes and monolithic refractories for steel ladles, converters, electric arc furnaces and RH degassers. Each order starts from your slag data and ends with a lining that has been read after its first campaign. We have 16 years of export experience and a combined capacity of 160,000 tons a year: 100,000 tons of brick and 60,000 tons of monolithics.

| Product | Typical zone | Why it is used |

MgO-C brick for ladle slag line, BOF and EAF
MgO-C brick is fused or sintered magnesia bonded with graphite and resin. It is tempered, not fired. Graphite content is chosen by zone, commonly between 10 and 20 percent. We match the grain curve, carbon source and antioxidant system to your slag and your steel grade. See our MgO-C brick page and the steel ladle refractory solution.
MgO-CaO and MgO-Cr2O3 brick
MgO-CaO brick suits clean steel work where carbon pickup matters. Its weak point is free CaO, which reacts with moisture in humid air, so the packing is sealed (see Step 6). MgO-Cr2O3 brick is used in RH degassers and other zones where volume stability matters. Used chrome-bearing brick should be handled under your local rules for hexavalent chromium. We can send handling guidance with the order.
Precast shapes and monolithic refractories
Precast shapes are cast in the factory, cured and dried before shipping, so installation on site is shorter. Monolithics include castables, gunning mixes, ramming mixes and dry mixes, packed in moisture-protected big bags with an installation guide.
Step 1: Your slag data becomes a formulation

Two ladles with the same brick grade can wear very differently because the slag is different. So we do not quote from a catalog grade. We start from your operating conditions.
What you send
- Slag analysis: CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, FeO, MnO
- Steel grades and refining route
- Temperature and treatment time
- Current brick grade, heat count and failure mode
- Failure photos and residual thickness
What we adjust
- Magnesia type and grain size curve
- Carbon source and content
- Antioxidant system
- Binder and curing
- Porosity and density target
What you receive
A recommended grade for your zone, a TDS with agreed property windows, a trial or pilot lining plan, batch records with a COA, and a follow-up on service results.
Three slag cases we see often
| Slag condition | What we adjust |
|---|---|
| High basicity, CaO-rich | Dense matrix, low open porosity, high-purity grain |
| High Al2O3 | Pure magnesia, tight structure, heat cap agreed |
| Oxidizing, high FeO and MnO | Antioxidant system matched to the slag, strong hot bond |
Step 2: Raw material control before batching

No lot goes into a batch until it is released. A grade change is a formulation decision, not a trading decision.
- Lot recorded. Supplier, grade, size fraction and lot number are logged on receipt.
- Sampled. A representative sample is taken from every incoming lot.
- Checked. Chemistry, grain size and visual inspection against the grade specification.
- Released or held. Only released lots go to batching. Others are tagged and held.
- Stored, sample kept. The lot goes to a marked bay and a retained sample is kept.
Step 3: LAEIS 2500 t press and forming line

The brick is made at the press. Density and porosity are set there, and they decide how fast slag can penetrate the lining. Our forming line is built around a LAEIS 2500 t hydraulic press.
Bricks are formed using brick presses. This process determines the density and porosity of the bricks—parameters that dictate the rate at which slag penetrates the lining. Our brick-forming production line is centered around a 2,500-ton LAEIS hydraulic press, complemented by 12 additional presses with capacities ranging from 800 to 2,100 tons.
Why press capacity matters to your lining life
- Density and porosity. High forming force closes pores. Fewer open pores mean slower slag penetration.
- Large, heavy shapes. A 2500 t press can form big-format bricks for ladle and converter linings.
- Repeatability. A robot cell takes pressed bricks off the press, so handling is the same from brick to brick.
Size check and trial assembly
Pressed bricks are measured at the press, so size errors are caught there and not in the vessel. Rings are dry laid out and marked before packing. Fit is proven and the installation order is clear.
Step 4: MgO-C brick core process, six stages

| Stage | What happens | Control point |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Batching | Materials are weighed from numbered hoppers to the recipe | Recipe and lot record |
| 2. Mixed material | Mix is held in bins at the press, ready for forming | Mix uniformity |
| 3. Pressing | High-pressure forming sets density and porosity | Pressing record |
| 4. Size check | Pressed bricks are measured at the press | Dimensions |
| 5. Curing | Trolley racks carry bricks into heat treatment to cure the resin | Heat treatment record |
| 6. Trial assembly | Rings are dry laid out and checked before packing | Fit and marking |
Step 5: Laboratory verification before shipment

High-temperature strength and thermal conductivity are tested in our own laboratory. The results go into the batch record and the COA, so you can compare our numbers with your own incoming inspection.
- Hot modulus of rupture (HMOR). Strength at service temperature. It shows how the brick holds up against flow and erosion.
- Hot-wire thermal conductivity. Heat loss through the lining. It matters for shell temperature and steel temperature drop.
- Also tested per grade. Chemical composition, bulk density and apparent porosity, cold crushing strength, and oxidation and coking behavior for carbon grades.
What to ask us for
A TDS, a COA from a recent batch, and a retained sample from the same lot you order.
Step 6: Export packing and container loading

We pack each product form differently, and we mark every pallet and crate. Tell us your storage time and unloading method before we pack.
| Product form | How we pack | What to check on receipt |
|---|---|---|
| Shaped bricks | Stacked by lot on wooden pallets, in film, tag on each pallet | Count and tags match the packing list |
| Precast shapes | Stacked on a plywood-based pallet, strapped, covered with film | Film intact, straps tight, no cracks |
| Nozzles and parts | Each piece in its own cardboard cell inside a wooden crate | Cell count matches the crate label |
| Monolithic mixes | Big bags, film wrapped on pallets, each with a product label | Label matches product and batch |
For MgO-CaO brick we use sealed, moisture-proof packing and ask for your expected storage time. In containers, crates go in tiers with crossed ratchet straps, and big bags go two high, cross-strapped and wedged at the floor. You can ask for photos of the load before the doors close.
Step 7: Installation support and used-lining feedback

The order does not end at delivery. It ends when the lining has been read and the next formulation is set.
- The order does not end at delivery. It ends when the lining has been read and the next formulation is set.
- Install. Ring order, joint thickness and fit are agreed with your crew, on site or by video.
- Dry-out and heat-up. The heat-up curve is agreed in advance, so the first heat does not shock the lining.
- In service. You log heats, slag basicity and temperature. We ask for first-campaign checks.
- After the campaign. Residual thickness, wear map and photos come back to us.
Four readings that start a review
| Reading | What to send us |
|---|---|
| Bore or lining profile | Diameter or thickness at two heights |
| Skull and buildup | Photo with a scale in frame |
| Erosion pattern | Wear map or marked sketch |
| Cracks and spalling | Close-up of the worst area |
If the numbers support a change, you get a revised TDS and a trial lot.
What to verify before you order
- Ask for the TDS with property windows, not a single typical value.
- Ask for a COA from a recent batch and a retained sample from your lot.
- Ask which press and which route make your brick.
- Ask how the brick is packed for your storage time.
- Agree a trial lot and a service-data plan before the main order.
- Agree who supports installation and heat-up.
